In mid-August, Nick broke ground on a small “rewilding” job for Petroc College in Barnstaple. His remit was to provide a piece of ground which will give the students a space to try out different meadow creation techniques.
Once the turf is scraped off, Nick starts creating banks to give compartments for the different techniques to be trialled.
Of course, the banks will also be fantastic for increasing invertebrate and vole numbers, in this formerly closely mown field.
Nick is now nearing the end of the small job at Petroc College. Once the students are back, they will plant willow cuttings into the banks and create wildflower areas on the cut ground.
It will be interesting to see the project in a few months time, it’s going to look very different!
