Roborough Rewilders

Red Ruby Devon Cattle

Conservation Grazing

We have been incredibly lucky at Roborough Rewilders to have a neighbour who has been happy to bring in his Red Devon cattle every Autumn for a number of years.  They are in our fields for up to three months.

Red Devons are perfect for rewilding projects. They are relatively small, placid and will eat almost anything!

Benefits they bring include:

Stopping vegetation succession
Poaching the ground
Providing dung

At Roborough they eat grass, oak, willow, brambles, nettles and blackthorn. Overall they mimic the big herbivores that once roamed our landscape. They add an extra layer to the complexity of the habitat and have been a perfect addition to the rewilding project.
